ISTCL: Keeping the Books Moving After an Unexpected Loss
The Situation
ISTCL relied on Tom, the father of CEO Robert, for virtually all aspects of the company’s accounting. When Tom passed away unexpectedly, Robert lost both his father and the trusted person who understood the company’s books better than anyone, making the time that followed very difficult and demanding both personally and professionally. Robert reached out to several accounting firms for help. Many failed to respond while others expressed clearly that they did not have the capacity to take on additional work, and by the time he found Auciera, the company’s accounting and tax filings were falling behind with two corporate returns outstanding and regular remittances not being filed or paid.
The Capacity Problem
This is the exact gap Auciera was built to close. Accounting firms don’t turn away work because they don’t want it, they turn it away because taking on a new client at that scale means hiring and hiring takes months ISTCL didn’t have. Auciera gave Robert a way to add capacity instantly, without ISTCL waiting on a firm’s headcount or hiring cycle, and without Robert rebuilding years of records by hand.
Working with Auciera
Robert pointed Auciera at ISTCL’s financial documents. Auciera ingested, organized, and reconciled the records automatically, work that would normally have required either his father’s institutional knowledge or a firm willing to start from scratch. From there, Robert used Auciera’s human-in-the-loop review process to work through flagged issues and verify the information was accurate, rather than taking courses to learn accounting in order to start rebuilding years of books by hand himself.
The Result
ISTCL went from multiple years behind to a draft set of financial statements ready for professional review, without Robert having to reconstruct years of accounting knowledge alone or wait indefinitely for a firm to have capacity for them. Auciera didn’t replace professional review; it got the books caught up to the point where that review could happen quickly and easily.
Robert’s Perspective
“When my father passed away, we lost the trusted person who ran our accounting, and we immediately started falling behind, multiple years behind by the time I accepted that I would need much more help than I could supply with my limited accounting knowledge. I looked for firms and called several; none of them had room to take us on. Auciera pulled the records together and organized them. I was able to go through and confirm everything was right. Instead of an endless search for a firm with capacity. It meant we finally had a clean set of financial records, ready to file our tax returns. The record ingestion and ongoing recording with Auciera was simple, significantly faster, accurate – in fact, far less prone to human error than conventional bookkeeping. With all our supporting backup documentation efficiently organized, it quickly reduced ongoing record-keeping and retention processes.”
